Discover How To Detox The Body To Enhance Your Health
Just after my daughter, our second child was born I had reached a stage where I was feeling tired all the time and quite lifeless. I’d had several visits with my doctor, and on each occasion I was informed that they couldn’t find any problems.
A friend of mine, who also happened to be a physiotherapist, intimated that I needed to detox my body, and generally learning about how to detox the body with a view to changing my eating habits. It sounded like a good idea, so figured it was a worthy investment of my time to at least check it out, and why so many alternative and complementary health practitioners recommend doing a detox and recommend starting with the week detox so avidly.
She also hinted to me to try a simple detox foot patch. I now treat myself to a foot massage at least once a week, if you don’t want to invest in a foot spa, the detox patches can do just as good a job - but doing it this way you miss out on the relaxing foot massage at the same time
So here’s my top tips about how to detox your body.
Herbal teas and water and plenty of both
Making sure you take in plenty of fluids is very important while you are following a detox diet as it will help your body flush out all the toxins. It also helps to prevent constipation, helps your internal organs function more efficiently, and helps reduce the signs of aging by plumping up your skin. On a normal day try to drink about 2 liters of water, and more when you exercise.
A general pointer is to aim to drink an extra half liter of water for every hour you exercise. The best water to drink is home filtered tap water, or boiled water which has cooled, or bottled water. Ideally drink water that is at room temperature. Herbal teas are a great alternative in helping your reach your daily quote - loose leaf tea is the better option if it’s available. Peppermint, camomile, dandelion root, horsetail and yarrow are particularly good as their hidden ingredients help boost the detox process. Green tea and redbush is especially healthy as it is a rich source of natural antioxidants.
Some Tips To Help You Drink Your Quota
If drinking 2 to 3 liters a day seems overpowering, it’s actually fairly easy when you know how. Have a glass of water with some fresh lime or lemon juice as soon as you get up - this is a great way to activate your digestive system and bowel then try to drink another glass each time you take a break from your work.
Each time you eat something have a glass then, a glass between meals, another during the evening and a final glass before you retire to bed for the night. Don’t be afraid to “spice up” the water with a little lemon juice.
Try To Eat Food Which Is As Fresh As Possible
If possible you should be buying fresh food and either juice them or eat them raw, in salads or as snacks or appetizers. Raw fruits and veg are still full of all their natural enzymes, vitamins and minerals. If food is kept too long, or when it is cooked or preserved, it loses a lot of its nutritional value.
Try to buy your fruits and veg locally, ideally from farm shops and local markets Food imported internationally tends to be picked underripe (before it’s built up its full nutritional value) and a lot of nutrition is lost during the journey to the stores.
Do You Need To Go Organic
When you’re following a detox diet you don’t need to buy everything organic, because organic is usually much more expensive, but if you can manage one or two organic foods that would be great.
If you can’t find or afford organic fruits and veggies, it’s not a problem. Just eating plenty of fresh fruits and veg is more important, whether they are organic or not, than skimp on quantities. However, there are some good reasons for eating organic food on a healthy detox diet.
Organic foods are produced without the use of artificial pesticides and fertilizers, so they contain the lowest possible amounts of artificial, potentially toxic chemicals (such as nitrates). Although it’s a controversial area, there is evidence that the accumulation of these pesticides are linked to some of the serious health conditions of today.
Organic foods undergo minimal processing. The end result being that organic foods are free from artificial additives and hydrogenated fats. And you may notice that organic foods also taste better and have much deeper flavors.
